Healthy dose of discipline helps Lycoming junior pass actuarial exam on first attempt

Hannah Saar ’25, actuarial science and mathematics double major with a minor in economics, from Jersey Shore, Pa., overcame a major career obstacle during her junior year at Lycoming College by passing actuarial exam P, administered by the Society of Actuaries. The achievement — rarely attained on a student’s first attempt as the exam has only a 42.5 percent pass rate — will make her a very competitive candidate for employment.

Skeath award eases financial burden of internship, actuary exam fees

Zoe Stauffer’s fondness of lacrosse brought her to Lycoming College, but after meeting with Mike Smith, Ph.D., assistant professor of mathematical science, she was certain that Lycoming was the place that could provide her with the small-college experience she was seeking. Topped with a Skeath Scholars award to help cover the costs of an internship, the offer was irresistible.

Lycoming College alumni network supports student employment

In a season when so many future plans have been put on hold, young graduates from Lycoming College continued moving forward, thanks to the connections made possible through the College’s Center for Enhanced Academic Experiences (CEAE). Although the COVID-19 pandemic delayed fulltime job offers for many young grads, in the summer of 2020, now-alumna Mackaella Goodwin began a fulltime position at New York Life Insurance Company following a successful corporate internship with the same company.
