Mikayla Feldbauer ’20

Interdisciplinary major in Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Science

“I definitely want to go into the field of computational biology, possibly with a goal of pursuing a research career in industry. I’m really thankful for all the computational skills I gained at Lycoming College, because they’ve set me up to do well in the field. I also am so honored and grateful to have been chosen as the 2020 Chieftain. A sincere thank you to my friends, family, and everyone at Lycoming who helped me along the way.”

“Poetry holds the power to be universal. It really interested me that I could create stories of anyone, real or fictional, in such a way that anyone can still find an emotional connection to the work. Lycoming College has been a boon to both my artistic and academic ability. With the help of Dr. Feinstein and Dr. Hawkes, the quality of my poems and short stories has improved far more than I ever could have thought was possible.”

“My research assistantship at the Space Telescope Science Institute was a dream materialized! I grew up learning about space through its public outreach articles online; through them I learned about NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope — which has been my favorite telescope since I was fifteen. It’s hard to believe that I got to be one of the people working on it at its very own headquarters. Helping scientists use the telescope’s instruments to literally look back in time to observe our universe as it was 13.5 billion years ago and observing planets outside of our Solar System was all very wonderous.”

“I've been empowered to focus on my academics by the support I have received from Lycoming, and my leadership and participation in organizations here have also helped me show others who I am more fully as a person. There's a widening gap of the sense of responsibility for each other and ourselves, and to achieve our goals, we need to work together while maintaining faith in what we know we can accomplish.”

Celebrating a Greater Lycoming College

The Campaign for a Greater Lycoming was the College's most ambitious fundraising initiative in its history. With a goal to raise at least $65 million, Lycoming challenged its alumni, parents, and friends to Dare to Dream about creating an even greater institution. The Campaign concluded on June 30, 2019, and at an event held during Homecoming & Family Weekend on October 5, 2019, the College celebrated its extraordinary success, announcing it had exceeded its initial goal with more than $79 million in total support to the Campaign.
