Lycoming College is sponsoring the Summer Stock Production of “The Music Man” at the Community Arts Center, 220 West 4th Street, Williamsport, PA, Friday, July 26 through Sunday, July 28.

Lycoming College Summer Stock, in association with The Community Arts Center (CAC) in Williamsport, PA, produces one youth musical production each summer season utilizing professional artisans to create a thriving theatrical environment where performers in grades 7-12 build community, camaraderie, and a love for the theatre. The Summer Stock Production Team is looking for some great folks to hire to bring this production to life. See the postings below for available positions.

  • Production Manager

    Job Dates: May 1st – July 29th, 2024 with weekly Zoom production meetings May – June.

    Residence Dates: Check in on Friday, June 7, 2024, between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Departure is expected by noon on Monday, July 29th, 2024.

    Pay: Stipend of $2,000 and housing. This is paid ½ on arrival and remainder at load out.

    Housing: Housing will be made available for the position for the duration of the stay in Williamsport at Lycoming College at no cost to the person filling the position.

    Summary: The Lycoming College Summer Stock in association with The Community Arts Center (CAC) in Williamsport, PA produces one youth musical production each summer season utilizing professional artisans to create and build a thriving theatrical environment for high school aged performers to build community, comradery, and a love for the theatre.

    Job Expectations:
    The PM reports to the artistic director and is responsible for realizing the vision of the creative team including the Producer/Artistic Director, Director, Choreographer, and Designers. This position is Monday-Friday, 9:30am-4:30pm, and evenings and weekends, as needed.

    • Manage and oversee all production staff and production elements for the summer stock production.
    • Work with the creative team to build and manage production budgets and production calendars.
    • Plan, facilitate and follow up on design discussions, production meetings, site surveys, and shop visits.
    • Coordinate with vendors on rental quotes and orders, and confirm delivery and pick up times.
    • Work with venue manager to book crews on various calls, if needed.
    • Work with technical directors (summer stock and CAC) to provide detailed plans and procedures to ensure safety on site.
    • While on site, create and maintain a calm and professional atmosphere for the team.
    • Complete thorough reconciliations and archives.
    • Collect feedback about processes and work with management to continuously improve communication and better solve problems.
    • The PM must maintain a high level of artistic integrity while meeting the budget and schedule requirements and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all artistic and production personnel

    Job Requirements:
    All candidates should possess a thorough working knowledge of technical theatre, including scenic, lighting, costumes, props, audio/video, and effects as well as familiarity with OSHA regulations and theatrical industry safety and best practices. Applicants must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed and should have at least 2 years of experience in theatre/production management. Excellent communication, organizational, and strategic problem-solving skills are required. Ability to work independently and as a team member, to keep calm and positive under pressure, and to collaborate with others is essential. Maintaining a professional, collaborative, positive environment is a must. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between performance, shop, and rehearsal locations expected.

  • Props Designer / Artisan / Run Crew

    • Assist in load-in and load-out of the production.
    • Act as props run crew for production.
    • Assist in cleaning the properties area at the end of the production, including returning all stock to storage.
    • Assist with maintaining a prop inventory throughout the production.
    • Maintain a clean and safe working environment

  • Scenic Carpenter / Stagehand

    • Assist in the repair, medication, or building of any shop or theatre improvements.
    • Assist in production load in as needed.
    • Assist in run crew ad needed. Fly rail, general hand.
    • Other services to be performed on an “as needed” basis determined by and at the direction of the Production Manager.

  • Stage Manager

    Responsibilities include:

    • Assemble and maintain the prompt book which is defined as the accurate playing text and stage business, together with such cue sheets, plots, daily records, etc., as are necessary for the actual technical and artistic operation of the production
    • Work collaboratively with the director and the heads of all other departments to serve the production needs
    • Serve as part of the communication hub for a production while in rehearsals or performance by providing daily rehearsal or performance reports for all necessary departments
    • Assist in creating schedule breakdowns and rehearsal calls in accordance with the productions needs
    • Communicate with students’ parents when students are missing or in case of an emergency
    • Run or call the technical elements of each production while in performance
    • Help maintain the artistic intentions of the director after opening
    • Keep records to advise the producer on matters of attendance, time, accidents, or other matters that may need documentation

    Job Requirements:
    All candidates should possess a thorough working knowledge of theatre. Excellent communication, organizational, and strategic problem-solving skills are required. Applicants must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed and should have at least 2 years experience in stage management. Ability to work independently and as a team member, to keep calm and positive under pressure, and to collaborate with others is essential. Flexibility and being comfortable managing high school age cast in a collaborative environment are a must.

  • Stitcher / Dresser / Wardrobe

    Responsibilities include:

    • Assist the costume shop manager in the preparation and running of the production. This includes building, altering, fitting, repairing, washing and general maintenance of costumes used by the production.
    • Work under the wardrobe supervisor as a dresser during the run of shows, prepping costumes and assisting in quick changes as needed.
    • Moving costume supplies into the Community Arts Center (CAC) and returning them to storage at the end of the season.
    • Assist with maintaining an inventory of costume stock throughout the production.
    • Maintain clean and safe workspace.

    Qualifications and Skills: Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

    • 1+ years of experience working in a costume shop
    • Proficiency in hand and machine sewing.

  • Technical Director

    Responsibilities include:
    Report to production manager and the artistic director
    Supervise carpenters, scenic charge artist, properties

    Requirements:
    • Create technical build drawings based on set design/production conversations in order to create scenic elements needed for show.
    • Work with scenic designer to ensure that set can be built within budget as determined with production manager and artistic director.
    • Coordinate purchase and delivery of all materials needed for building of the set, working with the scenic charge and master electrician/sound engineer.
    • Communicate with stage management about the scenic needs during the rehearsal process
    • Coordinate the needs and provide rehearsal items as necessary.
    • Lead load in and strike of performance space.
    • Modify stock items to suit the needs of a particular show.
    • Maintain and inventory stock of platforms, flats, and other scenic pieces.
    • Complete assigned work in a timely manner, with a high level of quality.
    • Maintain a clean and safe work space.

    Qualifications:
    Previous experience in technical direction expected. Experience with carpentry, tool maintenance, crew leadership, budgeting, ordering, and purchasing of materials preferred. Ability to consistently produce high quality work at sufficient speed and to create and maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner respectful to artists and staff with various levels of experience and backgrounds. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between performance, shop and rehearsal locations expected.
