Your Path to a Career in Medicine and Healthcare

Majors: Biomedical Sciences (B.A.) | Biomedical Sciences (B.S.)

Biomedical Sciences at Lycoming College is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program designed for students with their sights set on careers in medicine, healthcare, and biomedical research. Drawing from biology, chemistry, biochemistry, mathematics, physics, psychology, neuroscience, sociology, and philosophy, the program provides the broad scientific and humanistic foundation that today's healthcare professionals need. Flexible Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree pathways allow students to tailor their coursework to their career goals, whether that is medical school, physical therapy, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, nursing, or biomedical research. The B.S. option is specifically structured to meet the prerequisite demands of medical school and other science-intensive professional programs.

Why Lycoming?

  1. Lycoming's Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) provides specialized advising, mentorship, and application support for students pursuing every type of healthcare career.
  2. Formal affiliations with medical, osteopathic, nursing, and allied health programs give Lycoming students recognized pathways into some of the region's most respected professional programs.
  3. Because undergraduate students are not competing with graduate students for lab access or faculty attention, students benefit from more hands-on research time and deeper mentoring relationships.
  4. The B.A. and B.S. pathways provide genuine flexibility that enables students to align their electives and prerequisites precisely with the admissions requirements of the programs they are targeting.
  5. Laboratory experiences span cadaver-based anatomy, physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and biomedical techniques, ensuring students are lab-ready from day one of professional school.
  6. Anchored by UPMC and Geisinger Medical Center, the Williamsport area's robust healthcare community provides a wealth of shadowing, internship, and clinical observation opportunities right on your doorstep.
