The Alliance
The Alliance at Lycoming College brings together students, faculty, staff, and community partners to foster a campus culture free from sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. Through prevention programming, volunteer peer educators, campus-wide awareness campaigns, and a dedicated campus space, the Alliance promotes an environment of safety and respect that empowers students to pursue an undergraduate education.
The Alliance’s Student Advisory Committee works alongside campus administrators and faculty to promote a culture change on campus. Get involved.
The Alliance is made possible through a U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) grant to Reduce Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence and Stalking on Campus Program. The College works diligently with the Williamsport Bureau of Police and YWCA Northcentral PA to create a safe campus for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The College was first awarded the grant in 2017, and again in 2020 and 2024.
Alliance House
Established in 2022, Alliance House is a physical location on campus offering resources and support for students who have been affected by sexual and gender violence. It provides a welcoming, safe space for healing and finding peace. Alliance House also serves as a hub for cultural change initiatives related to interpersonal violence, including sexual, dating, and domestic violence and stalking.
SOAR Peer Educators
Lycoming’s SOAR (Sexual Violence Outreach, Awareness, and Response) Peer Educators are students who provide support and guidance to peers who have been affected by sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. In addition, to holding office hours at the Alliance House in support of student needs, peer educators implement prevention programs that positively impact our campus. Students who are interested in becoming a SOAR Peer Educator can find more information and application materials here.
Prevention & Awareness Programming
Throughout every academic year, the Alliance hosts guest speakers and offers workshops, film screenings, and other programs that aid in the prevention of sexual violence.
Lycoming participates in the Green Dot bystander intervention program, a national initiative designed to help prevent personal violence. Campus community members are trained to recognize potential violence and safely intervene to help create a safer environment. Student organizations interested in sponsoring an event can email greendot@lycoming.edu.
Other programs includes our annual Red Flag Campaign in support of healthy relationships, Silent Witness Display in recognition of Domestic Violence & Dating Violence Awareness Month, Take Back the Night, Strike Out Wiffleball Tournament, OneLove Awareness Game, Men Can Cook Competition, and more. Additional information on upcoming events can be found on the Lycoming calendar.
