Jurisdiction

Students have a right to file a sexual misconduct complaint or a discrimination complaint on the basis of sex. Lycoming College aims to coordinate a prompt investigation with any other institutional or legal process, if appropriate. The legal process, however, is considered separate from the College’s obligations to end, resolve, and remedy any discriminatory or sexual misconduct, and the College will continue its process through to resolution, even if there are pending legal actions outside of our institution.

Lycoming College can process sexual misconduct incidents that occur within our campus community and off campus when they are under the context of the College’s educational programs or activities. For more information on the College’s jurisdiction requirements please see the Equal Opportunity, Harassment, and Nondiscrimination Policy. If an incident of sexual misconduct occurs off-campus, it may fall under the context of the College’s education programs or activities and affects our institutional community as a whole.

We strive to support victims/complainants and take necessary steps to protect individuals from any further harassment, and provide them with information to access appropriate services and resources. We further consider how to support the safety and well-being of our entire campus community.

Title IX Abroad

Lycoming College prides itself on providing a diverse educational community based on respect, honesty, truth, and commitment to the campus community. Lycoming College believes its students, faculty, and staff should be in an environment free from sexual misconduct and discrimination. This applies to all students wherever they may be studying, including studying abroad. We are committed to upholding the rights afforded by Title IX.

Lycoming College will process complaints of sexual misconduct regardless of where the conduct occurred. Even in incidents where the conduct occurred off-campus, it may fall under the context of our educational programs or activities. While Title IX regulations primarily address incidents that occur in the United States, we can offer our students resources and support while they are studying abroad. We strive to protect our community and provide them with the information to access appropriate services and resources.
