Musical Theatre
The Otto L. Sonder, Jr. Endowed Program in American Musical Theatre supports American musical theatre productions at Lycoming College. The late Dr. Otto Sonder, a graduate of Lycoming College and later a faculty member, made this extraordinary gift to provide students with exceptional opportunities to perform, design, and produce musical theatre at Lycoming College.
Our newly-created musical theatre curriculum introduces you to a wide variety of approaches to performance. It is meant to develop your whole instrument and help you gain strong acting, singing, and dancing skills through collaborative work and individualized sessions with both theatre and music faculty. You will explore the unique performing challenges of the genre and take courses in both music and theatre departments in order to develop a greater capacity for artistic expression.
In the classroom and in productions, the diverse exposure to a variety of dramatic styles and genres helps you to further cultivate your performance potential, allowing you to become a versatile performer. In addition, you have the opportunity to develop your unique senior project, and to build your professional resume through variety of experiences in multiple aspects of production.
