Should You Report A Situation

You may worry that if you report the alarming behavior of another student, you may get them in trouble. In fact, you may be saving their life. It is far better to be safe rather than sorry. By reporting a situation, you create the opportunity for trained professionals to assess the situation and then make recommendations that are based on concern for the student's well-being and their success at Lycoming College. You should not attempt to handle a crisis situation on your own.

Confidentiality

During a crisis situation, the normal rules of confidentiality do not apply so that appropriate actions and communications can quickly occur to protect the well-being of the distressed student. At the same time, the student's right to privacy is respected and any disclosures about their situation is limited to those on campus who need to know. This usually includes:

  • Dean of Student Affairs
  • Campus Security
  • Residential Life Personnel
