Halloween Spectacular fills Community Arts Center with spooky, family-friendly music

Join Lycoming College Community Orchestra at the beautiful Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport for an evening of trick-or-treating and musical fun for the whole family! The College’s Halloween Spectacular is slated for Saturday, Oct. 28, and is free and open to the public.

Lycoming students sign up for alternative spring break to foster campus culture

Instead of heading home or to a sunny locale, a group of Lycoming College students participated in “Alternative Spring Break,” a free program for students opting to dedicate their time to community service opportunities. Organized by Sophia Stabley, director of community service and involvement at Lycoming College, and Jae Ellison, director of outdoor leadership and education (OLE) at Lycoming, the group stayed on campus for the break and worked together on various community service and outdoor recreational activities.

Seventy-five Lycoming College students donated time to local charities for 9/11 Day of Service

To honor the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the United States, Lycoming College partnered with non-profit organization 9/11 Day to help shift the focus from tragedy to that of doing good. More than 75 students, faculty and staff from Lycoming College volunteered 223 hours at 11 organizations around Williamsport.

Mayor Slaughter to speak at Martin Luther King Jr. plaque dedication

Lycoming College will dedicate a plaque to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s visit to campus on April 24, 1958, when he addressed the college community in Clarke Chapel. Derek Slaughter, mayor of Williamsport, Pa., will deliver a keynote address. The event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in Clarke Chapel on the Lycoming College campus. All members of the public are invited to attend.

Lycoming College students lend a helping hand

Nearly 210 Lycoming College volunteers participated in National Volunteer Week by helping homeowners in Williamsport and surrounding areas tackle year work. The students also assisted the City of Williamsport in cleaning up public spaces, such as Brandon Park, The Riverwalk, and Downtown Williamsport. The College visited 38 locations in total.

Lycoming College community gathers for evening of service at Central Pennsylvania Food Bank

Lycoming College students, faculty, and staff gathered Tuesday evening to volunteer their time at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, packaging food to be shipped out to families in the Williamsport area. Thirty-seven members of the College community pitched in to prepare 438 boxes of food to help local families through the cold winter days ahead.

The words “spring break” often conjure images of young people lazing on a sunny beach, or perhaps headed home for a relaxing week with family. Not so for 20 Lycoming College students, who instead headed to Lucedale, Miss., to participate in the Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge.
