Lycoming College’s ninth annual Music Gala, Sunday, April 14, at 4 p.m., at Williamsport’s historic Community Arts Center, will showcase works from the Lycoming College choir, band, and orchestra, as well as from the Lycoming College Community Orchestra (LCCO). This year’s Gala will add a new element with the addition of choral students from high schools across the region. The event is free and open to the public.

“The Bach Experience is a wonderful way to introduce students to what it’s like to study music in a college environment while sharpening their singing and musicianship skills.”

Singing alongside Lycoming College choir students, the Lycoming College Bach Experience Honor Choir will perform the cantata “Christ lag in Todes Banden” by Johann Sebastian Bach. The Bach Experience, comprised of local area high school choral students, is an inspirational and developmental outlet for aspiring vocalists that includes voice training, intensive rehearsals, interactive lectures, and the opportunity to perform with a group of professional Baroque instrumentalists.

In addition, the Lycoming College band, under the direction of William Ciabattari, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the music department, will perform “The Gathering of the Ranks at Hebron” by David Holsinger, “Bugler's Holiday” by Leroy Anderson, and “Puszta Jan Van der Roost.” The Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky will be performed by the LCCO.

“The Bach Experience is a wonderful way to introduce students to what it’s like to study music in a college environment while sharpening their singing and musicianship skills,” said Patrick Chiu, Ph.D., assistant professor of music and coordinator of the Bach Experience.
