Events

Our department has a lot of fun! Here are some of our recent events:

Presidential Election Night Party - We hosted a Presidential Election Night Party for over 70 students this past November. We watched and analyzed electoral returns on CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and Comedy Central; played Presidential Trivia and Risk; had a friendly electoral map prediction contest; and generally enjoyed some good times and good food with our majors, minors, and other Lyco students.

Road trip to the United Nations Headquarters - Our International Organizations and Politics of Developing Countries Classes visited the United Nations headquarters in New York. We toured the building and had a special lecture on human rights and the global war on terror by a United Nations employee.

“A River Blue: Together toward Recovery in Northern Uganda” - We co-sponsored a talk and performance by three native Ugandans entitled “A River Blue: Together toward Recovery in Northern Uganda.” While here, Okweny George Ongom, Ekuka Morris, and Owello Bartholomew visited with a political science class, had dinner with political science students, faculty, staff, and gave a lecture open to the college and Williamsport communities.

Life After Lyco - We along with Career Services, dedicate a Saturday morning to help students prepare for graduate school, law school, internships and jobs. This event is conducted in a workshop format and students left with rough drafts of cover letters, resumes and statements of purpose. We even had breakfast and lunch!

Super Tuesday Primary Party - We host a Super Tuesday Primary Party to watch electoral returns. We watch coverage on a variety of networks, analyzed election results as they came in, and generally enjoyed some intellectual discussions comparing pre-primary polls to exit polls and actual results.

Rwandan genocide survivor Emmanuel Habimana - The Office of Student Affairs and Political Science Department co-sponsored Rwandan genocide survivor Emmanuel Habimana’s visit to campus. While Emmanuel was here, he spoke with political science classes, had lunch with some Political Science students, and gave a lecture open to the college and Williamsport communities.

Ice Cream Social - We host our Ice Cream Social every fall. We call this “Three Profs and a Porch,” as we enjoy Eder’s ice cream (a Williamsport favorite!) on Dr. Williamson’s porch, catch up with returning students, and welcome our new students.

Pumpkin Picking - We enjoyed a hayride, corn maze and delicious snacks of apple cider and pumpkin muffins. We also did a little picking in the pumpkin patch at Carpenter Farm. We had so much fun we hope to make this a yearly event!
