Lycoming College recently launched an exciting partnership with Verto Education, an organization that enables students to start college abroad before continuing their studies on campus in Williamsport.

Students who wish to spend their first semester or year of college in destinations like Fiji, Costa Rica, London, and more can do so while earning college credits that will transfer seamlessly to Lycoming.

Through Verto’s groundbreaking model, students receive an educational and cultural experience directly after high school while earning 12-16 credits per semester that will satisfy general education requirements in college. This allows them to stay on track to graduate in four years.

“We are truly pleased to engage in this new partnership and enthusiastic for the students who will join us from these international experiences,” said Jessica A. Quintana Hess, director of admissions at Lycoming. “While we have a handful of students who have had international exposure in high school, and many more who engage in global education while at Lycoming, students coming from the Verto program will offer new insights and unique perspectives from having expanded their worldview in this way. They will join a community of students who are hungry to learn and eager to engage in meaningful discourse as they prepare to make an impact on their careers and in their communities.”

In alignment with Lycoming’s institutional values, Verto’s accredited courses are structured around small class sizes, cultural-immersion, and project-based learning. This helps bring educational content to life and assists students in gaining clarity on their passions and academic interests. The most popular courses Verto offers include Introduction to Business in London, Spanish Language in Madrid, Environmental Science in Costa Rica, and Cultural Anthropology in Fiji.

“After a year of such turmoil, we’re proud to offer the Class of 2021 a unique opportunity that fosters their personal growth, both emotionally and academically, through meaningful curriculum, dedicated faculty, and profound life experience,” said Mitch Gordon, president and co-founder of Verto Education. “Lycoming is innovating the way we typically consider a freshman year experience in the midst of an atypical year.”

Students who wish to spend their first semester or year abroad can apply directly to Verto Education and select Lycoming College as the partner college for admission.
