Disability Support

Welcome to Disability Support Services

Lycoming College is committed to ensuring that students with disabilities have equal access to all programs, services, and activities. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (and its amendments) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Disability Support Services (DSS) staff make arrangements for students with disabilities to have reasonable and appropriate accommodations. The DSS staff also work with students to support the development of self-advocacy skills and independence.

View Documentation Requirements

DSS Staff will review supporting disability-related documentation and identify specific accommodations for which the student is eligible. Documentation must be recent (within three years, approximately), typed, signed by a qualified professional (not a family member), printed on letterhead, and include the following:

  • Diagnosis/identification a specific disorder or condition
  • Description of the diagnostic methodology/how the condition was diagnosed (include test scores, when applicable)
  • Description of how the diagnosis impacts a major life activity of the student
  • Description of the level of severity of the condition
  • Description of past and current services and treatments
  • Specific recommendations for accommodations (with data-based rationale)

For students with learning disabilities who received special education services in high school, the most recent psychoeducational evaluation report should be submitted. The IEP (Individualized Education Plan) is not adequate supporting documentation, as it only represents one institution's response to the presence of a disability. For full consideration, the evaluation report must include diagnostic methodology that consists of a psychological assessment (i.e., individual test of intellectual functioning) and an educational assessment (i.e., reading, writing, and math achievement subtests).
