Kindergarten teacher at Hayat Bilingual School in Salmiya, Kuwait
Every day I experience something new from my students. It ranges from it being a normal thing for them to have one or more maids living with them to finding out they can't say their mother’s name aloud outside of their family. My job offers me an amazing cultural opportunity to adapt and learn about a new environment.
I wouldn't be where I am today without the Lycoming education department. They helped me discover my love of teaching and broadened my awareness of English as a Second Language. I knew I wanted to teach abroad, but ESL only came into mind after hearing about Dr. Hickoff-Cresko's own personal experience with it during her time as a teacher.
My favorite Lycoming memory would have to be all of my time spent with Alpha Xi Delta. Those girls built my character and helped me realize my potential. The leadership you can experience through clubs is what strengthened my independence and determination.
You wouldn't expect how normal my free time activities are here. I'm not out riding camels or playing in the sand. Instead, I'm going to malls, exploring the streets with my new driver's license, going for coffee with friends or at home with my fiancé and puppy.
