Lycoming College's theatre department invites audiences on an Olympian-style adventure as it opens its 2026-27 season with “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.” The show runs Nov. 11-14, in the Mary L. Welch Theatre, with all performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and seats must be reserved ahead of time.

“The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” turns ancient Greek myth into a high-voltage rock adventure full of heart, humor, and high stakes. Adapted from Rick Riordan's best-selling novel, with a book by Joe Tracz and music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki, the show follows Percy Jackson, a teenager who discovers the Greek gods are real and that one of them is his father. Charged with recovering Zeus' stolen lightning bolt before war erupts among the gods, Percy battles mythical creatures, forges lifelong friendships, and learns that courage, not power, makes a hero. Driving songs, bold storytelling, and a fiercely energetic ensemble bring the world of Camp Half-Blood roaring to life onstage. More than a quest story, it's a celebration of every misfit who has ever wondered where they belong and found out they were stronger than they knew.

“What makes this production especially exciting is the creativity of the artistic team combined with the incredible energy our student performers bring to the stage. Together, we are transforming our theatre into a constantly shifting mythological world where anything can happen. Beneath all the spectacle is a story that speaks to all of us—about finding where we belong, embracing what makes us different, and discovering the hero within. We can't wait to take our audiences along for the ride,” said director Biliana Stoytcheva-Horissian, Ph.D., professor of theatre and chair of the department at Lycoming College.
