Areas of Expertise: Entrepreneurship
Tom Gargiulo has many decades of experience with a wide and varied number of entrepreneurial initiatives all over the world.
Mr. Gargiulo began his career as a Systems Engineer with IBM, progressing through the ranks as a Marketing Representative and Marketing Manager. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1989, ending the Cold War, he volunteered with the Peace Corps in Eastern Europe. He served as a Business Advisor to numerous entrepreneurial enterprises, promoting the transition from a command production economy to a market-driven one. After completing his Peace Corps service, Mr. Gargiulo remained in Eastern Europe where he helped to launch several successful joint ventures, most notably the American University in Bulgaria and one of the region’s first mobile phone companies.
Returning to the United States, Mr. Gargiulo headed operations for a startup offshore development company that leveraged Bulgarian IT expertise for internet-related projects on behalf of American and European corporations. Throughout the .com era, he served as a strategy advisor for new businesses. Eventually, Mr. Gargiulo pivoted to finance, spending the last twenty years of his business career as a Project Manager on Wall Street implementing trading systems for the world’s largest banks.
Mr. Gargiulo’s experience spans all kinds of entrepreneurial initiatives. He is a serial entrepreneur, a corporate “intrapreneur,” a creator of business startups and a social entrepreneur. At Lycoming College, he instills an entrepreneurial edge to the passions of all of its students regardless of their academic major and career ambition.
