Assistant Professor of Statistics

Rachid Belhachemi, Ph.D., is a mathematician and educator with expertise in actuarial science, statistics, and financial mathematics. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Statistics at Lycoming College.

Belhachemi brings extensive teaching experience across a wide range of subjects, including statistics, financial mathematics, and general mathematics, as well as actuarial mathematics and preparation for SOA exams. He is known for his student-centered approach, combining academic rigor with compassionate mentorship. He creates a classroom environment that rewards effort and curiosity, empowering students to master complex concepts through clarity, engagement, and support.

Belhachemi’s research focuses on financial mathematics and risk management, with particular interest in mathematical modeling of investment strategies, insurance risk analysis, and market behavior under uncertainty.

Prior to joining Lycoming College, Belhachemi held several academic positions, including Assistant Professor of Actuarial Science, Le Moyne College, where he also directed the Actuarial Science Program; Lecturer, University of Pittsburgh, teaching actuarial science and calculus; and Director of the MSc Program in Financial Mathematics, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.
