#16 Lycoming
Falls to Elizabethtown
Wallenhorst Scores 150th
Career Goal
ELIZABETHTOWN,
Pa.--Lycoming's women's lacrosse team (10-1, 5-1) lost its first
game of the season 14-13 at Elizabethtown (8-1, 6-0) on Tuesday.
The teams had been tied for first in the MAC and the Lady Warriors
had risen to #16 in the IWLCA coaches poll this week.
Elizabethtown
boasts a stout defense, previously holding MAC opponents to a
league-low 29 goals this season. But Lycoming built a 10-5
halftime lead thanks to junior Megan Wallenhorst (Rochester,
NY) who netted three goals on the day, including the 150th
of her career. Wallenhorst’s milestone goal was the first score of
the second half, which put the Lady Warriors up by six.
Justine Titko (Wrightstown, NJ) assisted two of Wallenhorst’s goals, while Heather Suit (Annapolis,
MD) also dished a pair of assists for the game. Lady Warrior Megan
McIntyre (Baltimore, MD) led both teams with four helpers.
Much
to the chagrin of head coach Kara Reber though, Lycoming
won only three draw controls in the second period and was outshot
40-28 for the game (20-11 in the final period). Elizabethtown
crept back in the game at 12-9, before an unassisted Crystal
Cody (Rochester, NY) goal at 8:34 invigorated the Lady
Warriors.
Unfortunately,
the Lady Blue Jays reeled off five unanswered goals in the last
eight minutes to snag the
victory. The deciding score came from Elizabethtown’s Stephanie
Kreis on a free position shot with just 21 seconds remaining
in the contest.
Cody, Titko,
McIntyre, Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, NY) and Christi Karr
(Lansdale, PA) all scored twice for Lycoming on the afternoon,
while goalkeeper Kristina Peacock (Webster, NY) made 16
saves.
Elizabethtown
takes on #5 The College of New Jersey on the road on Thursday. A
strong showing would help Lycoming remain in the nation’s Top-20.
