Here we are! 1400 students on a campus centrally located near downtown Williamsport where we've been since 1812 (overture, please), making us one of the nation's 50 oldest colleges. That's the Susquehanna River in the background and Bald Eagle Mountain. The International Headquarters of Little League Baseball is across the river. If you did a 180 you would see some of the prettiest scenery around.

Harvard has the Yard, Cambridge has the Green, and at Lycoming we have the Quad. This is the heart of campus and the place to meet friends, play ultimate Frisbee, or catch some rays. Back in the 1930s, when the Quad served as our football field, Lyco beat Penn State! Okay, it was the Penn State JVs, but it was still a win. The Oliver Sterling Metzler Gate leading to the Quad is opened only once each year for the most important event held on the Quad. What's the occasion?

What makes this the most popular building on campus? It's the home of the 3 Ms — Mail, Merchandise, and Meals! Stop by the mailroom, swing through the campus store, and then head down to the Dining Commons. The food's good. Eat all you want, whenever you want between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. Missed dinner? Still hungry? Head on up to Jacks Corner. They're open until 1:00 am.

Lycoming is a true residential community. That means an opportunity to share a bathroom, true, but you'll make the best friends of your life. Choose a co-ed hall, an all women residence, a fraternity or sorority floor, or the on-campus apartments.

This is the only building you can hear on campus. Home to Lycoming's music department, on any given day you can hear our 115-voice choir, concert band, tour choir, chamber choir, jazz band, woodwind or brass ensembles rehearse. Here, too, is lovely Clarke Chapel. (You should see this place at Christmas!)

Directly to the west of Clarke stands The Bell. Don't try moving it. The students did that so often in the 1970s that the President had it cemented. Why do students tap the bell each time they pass it? It brings good luck on exams!

Just one look at this building and you get the sense that the arts are alive and well at Lycoming. Large rooms with ample indirect lighting are hallmarks of this fine facility. Art majors get 24/7 access to our studios, labs, and darkrooms because one never knows when the creative urge arises. What was this building before it became the hangout for Lyco artists? It was the campus gymnasium.

  • Long Hall

The Long Hall Clock Tower is visible from anywhere on the Quad. But don't set your watch by it. Each of its three sides bears a slightly different time. In 1969, students painted a Mickey Mouse face on the back side of the clock, a work of art that wasn't discovered for a whole day.

And who is likely to greet you by name when you enter Long Hall? Jim Douthat, Lycoming’s President!

At the center of campus is the Snowden Library. It's quiet and comfortable. Hang out on the first floor to wait for a friend or hide out in a fourth floor cubicle. Snowden has all the assets of a great academic library. You can search its online catalog as well as a number of other electronic databases from any computer on campus — or from your own computer in your residence hall room. Still having trouble with a paper topic? Lycoming's instructional services librarians are information wizards.

Connected to the library is Pennington Lounge, the most popular student gathering spot on campus, with mountain views to the north and south. It's open 24 hours, and Domino's Pizza delivers if you are pulling an all-nighter. Hot/cold drinks, fresh sandwiches, and pastries are available at Jazzman's

A lot of classes are held in the Academic Center (A-C for short). Luckily, because Lycoming's campus is compact, you can make it from any residence hall to your class in under 60 seconds. (Two minutes if you brush your teeth, which is what we recommend.) Academic stars start here. But if your head is in the heavens, you'll want to spend time in the Detwiler Planetarium. Or if life is a stage for you, you may call the Mary L. Welch Theatre home.

With three full floors dedicated to Lycoming’s biology and chemistry students, the Heim Building is considered one of the best facilities in the region. It features laboratories for research in tissue culture, molecular biology, ecology, plant science, endocrinology and radiation biology. There is also an aquarium room, greenhouse, and an animal and cadaver lab.

Once you learn how to use the equipment you have a full access card. No standing in line behind grad students to use the chromatograph/mass spectrometer or the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer. No waiting when it comes time to do your water quality analysis of a local trout stream.

In addition to being the home for Digital and Corporate Communication majors, the Comm building is also where the Lyco 2 campus TV station; 97.7 WRLC radio; and the Lycourier student newspaper is housed. After a full day of communicating, you can relax next door on the outdoor patio of DiSalvo's, one of the many great eateries in the area.

In October of 2005, Lycoming cut the ribbon on both its newest and second oldest building on campus. This 19th-century Williamsport landmark was originally built as a church but now has been reborn as The Mary Lindsay Welch Honors Hall. The Hall is a multi-use building and houses the offices of United Campus Ministry, the Catholic chaplain, and the Community Service Center. A small Meditation Chapel includes a stained glass window rescued from Old Main.

Built in 1852, the Drum House is the oldest building on campus and houses the Admissions Office. When you visit us, this is where your student-guided tour begins and where interviews are offered. Your four years at Lycoming (and by the way, you can expect to graduate in four years) start right here. To schedule a visit to campus, please view our appointment dates and time.

While Lycoming is a residential campus, the rest of the world is at your doorstep. The 120-store Lycoming Mall and 12-screen movie theatre are 15 minutes away. Some of the best biking, hiking, kayaking, trout fishing, deer hunting, and golf are just as close. Want a break from the Dining Commons? You're one mile from the Golden Strip with nearly every major national franchise restaurant and a short walk from Downtown, with outstanding local dining and a variety of shops. By the way, Greater Williamsport has more than 1,200 hotel rooms for your family when they come for your first varsity game, your concert, your play, Honors Convocation and your Graduation. Find out more about the Williamsport Community!

Pool

20% of students participate in one of our 17 varsity teams. And nearly 70% of the student body is involved in intramurals. So this building is a second home for many. In addition to varsity basketball courts, the facility contains a pool, fitness center, free weight room, ballet/dance studio, wrestling room and the steam/sauna. Whether you're out to break AJ's swimming record, do some serious training, or firm up a few soft spots, Lamade's central location makes it easy to incorporate fitness into college life.

Weight Room

The Rec Center consists of four intramural basketball courts, a suspended indoor running track, an expanded weight room, and an exercise and fitness area. Home to our intramural program, students compete for the championship in eight different sports, like Indoor Soccer, Flag Football and Whiffle Ball. You could be one of over 500 students that find their way onto a team like Tazmen or The Fighting Mooses.

On top of intramurals, you can annually catch a concert here, like past performers Yellowcard, Breaking Benjamin, Howie Day, and Taking Back Sunday. The Rec Center also houses community service activities like the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and Hand-in-Hand, an event in conjunction with the Special Olympics.

Football Field
Football Team

The 15-acre complex of varsity fields is a short walk (make that a jog) north of the campus. The new complex has a 2,200-seat stadium with individual locker rooms for soccer, football, lacrosse and cross-country. Lycoming's football team, perennial league champs, has been to the nationals twice in ten years.
