Lycoming Beats Scranton in MAC Playoff
Lady Warriors Advance to Second Round

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The Lady Warrior lacrosse team (14-3, 9-2) advances to the second round of the MAC Playoffs after a 25-13 overpowering of Scranton on Tuesday. The blue and gold topped their all-time record for goals in a game. The previous mark was 23.

Sophomore Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, NY) equaled Lycoming records with nine goals and 12 points on the day. Although Scranton opened the first-half scoring, Wingerden netted two quick goals to answer, giving Lycoming a lead, which it held for the rest of the game.

Freshman Megan McIntyre (Baltimore, MD) assisted junior Megan Wallenhorst (Rochester, NY) for Lycoming’s third score, then McIntyre followed with two straight goals of her own. McIntyre finished with four goals and two assists, while Wallenhorst recorded six goals.

Just over ten minutes into the first half, the Lady Warriors found themselves up 5-1. Scranton scored again, but Lycoming reeled off four straight goals, two by Wingerden. Wingerden scored twice more in the first half, the last coming on a free position shot with just 15 seconds remaining. At the break, the Lady Warriors were up 14-5 and Wingerden had six goals.

But Scranton still had fire in its heart. The Lady Royals scored the first five goals of the second half and it appeared as if the momentum had changed. But a McIntyre goal, followed by two consecutive Wallenhorst goals, returned a comfortable buffer to the Lady Warriors.

Scranton answered with two goals to make it 17-12, but Lycoming outscored the Lady Royals 8-1 in the final 16 minutes of the game, including a 6-0 run highlighted by three more Wingerden goals.

It was a milestone day all around for the Lady Warriors. Along with her single-game records, Wingerden also scored the 100th goal of her career. At 10:10 in the second half, Wallenhorst became the College's all-time goals leader with 171. Meanwhile, junior Heather Suit (Annapolis, MD) eclipsed her own record for assists in a season with 40.

Lycoming travels to Madison, New Jersey to face Drew on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in the second round of the MAC Playoff. Drew handed Lycoming one of its three losses in the regular season. If the Lady Warriors advance to the finals, they will play again on Saturday, May 5.
