
#20 Lycoming Defeats #18 Montclair State
Wallenhorst Scores Four Goals in Spotlight Victory

– Junior Megan Wallenhorst (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit)
scored four goals and an assist, while freshman Megan McIntyre (Baltimore, MD/Mercy)
added three goals and two assists as 20th-ranked
Lycoming defeated No. 18 Montclair State in NCAA
Division III Women’s Lacrosse action on Sunday
afternoon. The Lady Warriors scored the first four goals of the
game and never looked back in a 14-7 victory.
Sophomore
Crystal Cody (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) scored three goals,
while goalkeeper Kristina Peacock (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas)
made 16 saves on the day as the Lady Warriors improved to 10-0 on the
season. Peacock kept the Red Hawks out of the back of the net
repeatedly throughout the game stopping 10 shots, including three free-position attempts.
Lycoming
jumped out to a four-goal lead in the first six minutes of the
game as Cody scored three times. Cody’s first goal
came just 1:46 in and Wallenhorst followed with a goal off of a
Heather Suit (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) assist three minutes
later. Suit then fed Cody for the Lady Warriors' third goal, as Lycoming
went up 3-0
with 25:02 left. Cody collected the hat trick off of McIntyre’s
assist a minute later and Lycoming had a four-goal
cushion.
Montclair’s
Jennifer Tanis put the Red Hawks on the board as she scored
off of a free position attempt with 22:18 left to make the score 4-1.
After another Wallenhorst goal, Shauna Brocklebank brought
Montclair to 5-2 on an unassisted goal at 5:25, but Lycoming
struck twice within two minutes on goals by McIntyre and
Brianna Robertson (Brechin, ONT/Patrick Fogarty Catholic) and the
Lady Warriors led 7-2 at halftime.
In the second
half, McIntyre’s third goal at 18:21 pushed the Lycoming lead to
9-3. Montclair State got within four as Bethany Blaine and
Brocklebank tallied goals to make the score 9-5. But the Red Hawks
couldn’t get any closer and Lycoming scored three goals
in a 1:40 span to put the game away. Justine Titko
(Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington), Wallenhorst and
Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) each scored as
Lycoming extended its lead to 12-5 with 5:12 remaining.
Suit,
Lycoming's all-time assist leader, finished
with three assists, while Wingerden collected four draws and two
caused turnovers. Erin Dillon (Bayside, NY/St. Francis Prep)
had a team-high three caused turnovers for the Lady Warriors, who
also owned a 14-9 advantage in draw controls for the game.
