The Lycoming College Clean Water Institute (CWI) will host Tim Palmer, award-winning author, photographer, and speaker, for a talk entitled “Seek Higher Ground: The Natural Solution To Our Urgent Flooding Crisis,” which is based on his book of the same title. The event is slated for Friday, May 17, at 2 p.m. in the Barclay Room/Heim G11, and is free and open to the public.

Palmer is the award-winning author of 33 books about rivers, conservation, and adventure travel. He is a photographer of America's natural landscapes and a dynamic public speaker with inspiring slide shows about a range of environmental topics. Palmer will also speak with the Lycoming County Planning Commission, and will conduct a book signing at Otto’s Bookstore on May 17, 10 a.m.

Palmer will discuss how global warming will sharply intensify flooding, and will also provide an account of the Hurricane Agnes flood of 1972 that devastated Lycoming and surrounding counties.

“Seek Higher Ground” explores the legacy of flooding in America and takes a fresh look at emerging climatic, economic, and ecological realities of rivers and communities. Palmer will discuss how global warming will sharply intensify flooding, and will also provide an account of the Hurricane Agnes flood of 1972 that devastated Lycoming and surrounding counties.
