Lycoming College has received national recognition for the quality and uniqueness of its individualized and engaging academic program by being named a College of Distinction for three years running. Additionally, the College was honored for its student success and satisfaction with specific programs, including Business Administration, Education, and the Center for Enhanced Academic Experiences (CEAE).

Colleges of Distinction awards are unique among popular college guide classifications. Lycoming College earned its recognition for the excellence exhibited in the classroom and the ways in which it incorporates high-impact learning experiences throughout every student’s education. Such student-centered initiatives include faculty-led research, internships, global travel courses, living-learning affinity communities, civic engagement, outdoor leadership, and innovative cross-disciplinary programs.

The selection process for Colleges of Distinction consists of detailed interviews and research of each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts coupled with a careful evaluation of the general education programs, career development, strategic plans, and student satisfaction. Schools are accepted on the basis that they adhere to four points of distinction: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community, and successful outcomes.

Special recognition was bestowed upon three separate programs at Lycoming College:

  • Business. Globalization and the intricacies of modern business operations require effective communication and apt problem-solving strategies. Lycoming College’s business administration program, with concentrations in finance, marketing, and management, as well as a new minor in entrepreneurship, keeps future leaders adaptable as they grow alongside their industry.
  • Education. Lycoming College is known for graduating future educators who are not only knowledgeable, but effective mentors who provide empathetic support and employ modern teaching methods. The education program offers certification in conjunction with a degree from a range of liberal arts disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, history, English, languages, and the arts.
  • Career Development. Many students find themselves asking “What am I going to do after graduation?” Schools awarded the Career Development badge have shown that they are well equipped to help students graduate with confidence. With a firm handle on internships, research opportunities and travel courses, Lycoming College’s Center for Enhanced Academic Experiences provides unparalleled support throughout every stage of career exploration, development, and application.

“Students thrive when they embrace hands-on learning in a vibrant, welcoming community. Colleges of Distinction doesn’t rank schools, because we know that every student is different in what they need to best learn, grow, and succeed,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Instead, we value schools that embrace those differences. Lycoming College puts the student experience first, providing all the tools and opportunities students need to become lifelong learners who are ready to take on any challenge in today’s ever-evolving society.”

“Lycoming College puts a heavy emphasis on enhanced experiences outside of the classroom that help prepare students for careers or graduate school,” said Mike Konopski, vice president for enrollment management at Lycoming College. “We hope that inclusion in this celebrated list of Colleges of Distinction schools will help students discover how Lycoming College may be the right school for them.”
