Information for New Students
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides assistance to computer, phone, cable TV, and multimedia users at Lycoming College. For help with questions related to these services, students can contact the Help Desk by calling (570) 321-4150 from 8:00 a.m.-8:30 p.m. when class is in session, (otherwise 4:30 p.m.), (570) 321-4388 after hours, or by emailing email@example.com. The ITS office is located in the Academic Center, directly below the Snowden Library.

What is WebAdvisor?
WebAdvisor is a web-based interface that allows students 24-hour self-serve access to information related to their academic record, residential life forms and services, and their student accounts.
As a newly confirmed student, you received a temporary WebAdvisor login to access the Orientation registration site online. During your Orientation, you will have the opportunity to choose a new password. You will gain access to the full student menu in WebAdvisor after you complete your Information Technology session.
You may access your grades as they are available, print proof of enrollment, check the status of your student account, and do many other online tasks through WebAdvisor.
PARENTS: Please Note – Students may choose to share the information in WebAdvisor with you, but parents are not assigned their own WebAdvisor accounts.
Lycoming Email Account
All students are assigned an email account ending in @lycoming.edu from the College. Students are required to check this email account on a regular basis as stated in the Student Handbook; the College uses the @lycoming.edu email address for announcements and many faculty members communicate with students between classes using this email.
Check your @lycoming.edu email account throughout the summer after Orientation by going to http://mail.lycoming.edu to ensure that you receive announcements and information that will be important for you to know prior to check-in for the Fall Semester. You can also set up your mobile device to recieve Lycoming College email.
What Kind of Computer Do I Need?
The College’s Information Technology Services (ITS) recommends that students bring a laptop computer to campus. For a complete list of minimum specifications for on-campus computing, see the link to "Freshman Orientation Presentation," on the ITS website or detailed specifics in the ResNet document.

Open computer lab schedules are announced through emails to students at the beginning of the semester. Lab schedules are also posted at the entrances of the labs.
The Student Technology Fee includes a $30 in printing and copying credit per semester from networked printers in the computer labs and the library. Additional pages printed will be charged to the student’s account. For 2013, the charges are $.06 per impression duplex, $.07 per single page, $.19 per impression color duplex, $.21 per single color page.
Networked printers/copiers are available in other public areas such as Jack’s Corner and Pennington Lounge. Students are permitted to have their own printers in their rooms.
Accessing the Network from Your Computer
Students may access the College’s network using their personal computers. To access the network, the computer must pass the College’s Campus Manager program, and meet the minimum system requirements, including Windows updates. Computers accessing the College’s network must have the free Microsoft Security Essentials Antivirus Software installed to gain access to the network and the free ClamXav for Apple computers. Wireless Internet Access
Wireless internet access is available in all buildings throughout campus. To access wireless internet service, a computer must be registered through the College’s Campus Manager program (see information on Campus Manager in the ITS website). Students must have a valid username and password to gain internet access. Students are not permitted to have personal wireless routers on campus.
Most students choose to use their cell phones for personal communications. For students who wish to have telephones in their rooms, phones may be purchased and installed through the College. For more information, see the ITS website: www.lycoming.edu/ITS/Telecommunications. Each RA has a phone to use in case of emergency.
Students are encouraged to provide their cell phone numbers to the College in two ways: 1) Enter the number in the Contact Number Entry in WebAdvisor (this can be updated at any time). 2) Enroll in the Lyco Alert campuswide alert system.
Cable television is included in the package of services provided with the Student Technology Fee. Every residence hall room has one active cable jack.
The College does not provide cable television wire to students. You should either bring your own, or purchase a cable wire in the Campus Store to connect cable to your television.
A HELPFUL HINT FOR PARENTS! Many health insurance plans require proof of enrollment for full-time students. Your student can use his/her WebAdvisor account to access the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) and print proof of enrollment at any time, 24-hours-a-day. To access proof of enrollment, students should log in to WebAdvisor and select the link to "NSC: Enrollment Verification," under the Academic Profile section.
