Spring Symposium addresses “Politics of Consumption” at Lycoming College

As part of the Lycoming College Spring Symposium, “The Politics of Consumption: Race, Class, and Ethics,” Lycoming College will host Joseph Ewoodzie, Jr., Ph.D., associate professor of sociology and Vann Professor of Racial Justice at Davidson College, for a talk about the role that food plays in cultural and racial diversity. The event is planned for Wednesday, March 20, 4:30 p.m., in the Trogner Presentation Room, Krapf Gateway Center, and is free and open to the public.

International film festival to feature student works

Lycoming College and the Film and Video Arts Department will screen eight short student films at the 15th annual Onscreen Film Festival, slated for Sept. 29 at the AMC Classic 11 in Williamsport, Pa. The screening is free and open to the public, and tickets to the screening can be reserved at OnScreenFF ticket RSVP.

Lycoming College surpasses donor goal and raises $372,172 during Days of Giving

The Lycoming College community demonstrated its Warrior pride during its Days of Giving on April 12 and 13, 2022. The fourth annual fundraising event was the College’s most successful, resulting in 1,238 donors and $372,172 in 48 hours to help further the mission of Lycoming and create opportunity for its students.

The virtual event provided students with an opportunity to hear first-hand about these industry professionals’ experiences, ask questions, and listen to the advice of seasoned experts.

Film students participate in virtual discussion with industry pro

Students enrolled in Lycoming College’s Film and Video Production class had the opportunity this fall to learn from and network with film industry professional, Cecilia Alvarenga. Film and video arts courses introduce students to digital filmmaking and cover topics such as the principles, techniques, and fundamentals of filmmaking including script writing, pre-production, production, and post-production. The virtual meeting with Alvarenga helped to put into context some of what FVA classes studied throughout the fall semester.

Lycoming students to intern at Cannes Film Festival 2020

After the close of the Spring semester, three Lycoming College students will travel to the French Riviera to work as interns at the Cannes International Film Festival in Cannes, France. All three have been accepted into The American Pavilion’s Cannes Film Festival Student Program and will gain hands-on experience at one of the most renowned film festivals in the world as Film & Business Program interns from May 10-24.

Professor’s film continues to garner accolades on international stage

A film by Leah Bedrosian Peterson, associate professor of film and video arts, and chair of the communications department at Lycoming College, has been selected to screen as part of the prestigious fifth annual Armenians in Film at Lincoln Center: 6 Short Films by Armenian Filmmakers, in New York City. A screening of the film, “Under the Walnut Tree,” and a panel discussion, sponsored and juried by the AGBU Performing Arts Committee, will take place on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m., at the Francesca Beale Theater at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Award winning art writer and poet to lecture at Lycoming College

Lycoming College’s film and video arts program will sponsor guest speaker Anne Lesley Selcer with a talk on her award-winning book, “Sun Cycle,” and other recent works, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 4:30 p.m., in the Fine Arts Lecture Hall. The event is free and open to the public. An art writer and poet, Selcer is currently on tour promoting her book of poetry, “Sun Cycle.” The book – released just last month – was recently named the winner of the First Poetry Book Award published by the Cleveland State University Poetry Center.

Documentary film “The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin” at Williamsport CAC

The Lycoming College Scholars Program proudly presents a screening of the documentary, “The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin,” a film about the impending global impact of Bitcoin, a decentralized digital currency. The film begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at the Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport. The event is free and open to the public.
