Actuarial mathematics and quantitative economics, 2009
Actuarial analyst II at WellPoint, Inc. in Richmond, Va.
One interesting aspect of my job is that I have the capability of working from home, which is very nice when the weather isn’t cooperating. Currently, as a member of the actuarial product team, I get to analyze product performance and recommend any necessary changes. I am also an associate of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Lycoming’s actuarial math department helped me to begin passing the actuarial exams, which is a critical step in becoming a credentialed actuary and finding employment within the field. Lycoming’s Dr. Sprechini and the rest of the actuarial mathematics department prepare each actuarial mathematics student to have at least the first three actuarial exams passed by graduation. Lycoming not only has a dedicated faculty but also a dedicated staff that will help you find a relevant job as you get closer to graduating.
My favorite memory is still graduating with a 4.0 GPA. I also enjoyed the small student-to-teacher ratio, which leads to a closer student relationship with the faculty.
When I’m not studying or working, I enjoy playing soccer and refereeing youth and adult soccer in Richmond. I’m not quite sure what I will do with all the additional spare time that I have after passing my last exam!
