Owner of Jaime DeMarco Photography in New York City
As the owner, I run the day-to-day operation of the business while also producing and shooting images for advertising clients.
I credit my Lycoming degree with helping me to become an apprentice and learn the photography business. My professors each found and developed a talent and work ethic in me that I didn’t know I had. All of their teachings and guidance have culminated in my ability to expand my expertise and understanding of art, business and technique. They have all had a profound influence in my life and equipped me with the tools to unlock my potential.
Although a degree in art is difficult, it is attainable if you work hard and learn from those who have more experience. A degree is only the smallest of first steps.
Be prepared to start at the bottom, a degree is not a substitute for real world experience. You must be patient and remember that there are lots of talented young people graduating. Take every opportunity that is presented to you, because you never know where you will be in 10 years.
I began my career as a fashion photographer at 22, when I became a senior photographer at Urban Outfitters. There, I helped to successfully launch the company as the ecommerce powerhouse it is today. After two years, I relocated to New York City to become a freelance photographer. Some of my notable clients include Ashley Stewart, Baby Phat, DKNY, Empire Beauty Schools, Inked Magazine, Playboy, Rocawear, Sean John and Urban Outfitters.
