Douthat Commons

The Commons

This apartment-style-living residence hall opened in fall of 2007 and was officially named Douthat Commons in 2014 in honor of 14th President James Douthat. Douthat Commons houses 85 residents in 22, fully air-conditioned 3-5 person units. Units are available for selection during the housing lottery each spring. All upperclass students are enouraged to apply to participate in the Apartment/Commons lottery process with priority being given to those who are 1) in good disciplinary standing 2) have 50+ credits and 3) have a GPA of 2.25 at the end of the previous fall semester.

Quick Facts:

Each unit has:

  • 1 full bath with a second vanity/sink area outside of the bathroom in each unit; select units have an additional half bath
  • A kitchenette area (stovetop, sink, full-size refrigerator)
  • Basic furnishings - sofa/loveseat, chairs, side tables, bistro table, and chairs in the living/kitchen area
  • An extra-long twin bed, dresser, desk and chair, and closet space for each resident
  • A combination of carpeted and tiled floors

The complex has:

  • A beautifully landscaped common area outside on the southwest side
  • A community area/programming space with a vending area and laundry facilities on the second floor
  • First-floor units which have direct access from the street or common area
  • Elevator and interior stairway access to the second level
  • Two handicap accessible units on the first level
