What is it?

FYRST stands for First Year Residents Succeeding Together. The FYRST program series takes place throughout the year. The activities and programs offered allow you the chance to make new friends, learn how to live in communities, and develop skills that will help you to adjust to your first year at Lyco! Keep your eyes peeled for your chance to get involved!

Mission Statement

The mission of the First Year Residents Succeeding Together Program (FYRST) is to support the overall vision of the Office of Residential Life by providing first year students with opportunities that will assist in their transition to Lycoming College. FYRST will provide students with the ability to expand their knowledge of the College community and cultivate citizenship while developing necessary academic, interpersonal, and leadership skills.


  • To assist with transitional issues facing first year students in the following areas: multicultural competence, values and identity, communication, lifelong learning, civic engagement, and academic development.
  • To aide in the development and growth of interpersonal skills necessary to build successful relationships as well as establish a sense of belonging in the College community.
  • To provide first year students with the information and resources that will enable them to make the best choices for the remainder of their college careers.
