Psychology Practicum

Practicum class

The psychology practicum offers a unique experience to Lycoming College students. Ideal for students interested in pursuing careers in clinical or counseling psychology, the practicum offers a full year of training for psychology majors. Each student is paired with a mental health professional in the community. Following is a sample of practicum placements:

  • Williamsport School District
  • Allenwood Federal Correction Complex
  • Clear Vision – a residential counseling center for adolescent girls
  • Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children
  • Children’s Development Center
  • Ashler Manor – A group treatment home for girls
  • The Club House – a group treatment center for those with severe mental illness

Individualized student research experiences in the areas of development, sensation and perception, social psychology, and biopsychology are also available to psychology majors. In addition, all students enrolled in Research Methods (PSY 431W) complete an independent research project that culminates in a final poster and APA style paper.
