Annie Spencer serves as the chemistry laboratory manager and chemical hygiene officer for the Department of Chemistry and teaches general chemistry laboratory courses. She also manages all aspects of the chemistry laboratories including: chemical inventory, instrument and equipment maintenance, laboratory setup and preparation, and hazardous waste collection and disposal.
Spencer also coordinates safety policies and procedures, updates the Chemical Hygiene Plan, and ensures department and campus compliance with OSHA policies and recommendations.
After graduation from Lycoming, Spencer worked for eight years as an analytical chemist at Merck & Co., Inc. and was responsible for the analytical development of drug products. She also was responsible for the testing of all late-stage drug candidates including solid, liquid, and sterile dosage forms. Testing included all stages of new product development starting with the formulation definition and process selection through the launch of the product and initial years on the market.
Spencer serves as an advisor for the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and is a member of the board of directors for the Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity affiliate. She also is a member of the Lycoming College Alumni Association Executive Board.
