Maureen Richards received her undergraduate degree from Wilkes University with a major in music education. She also earned her Master of Science Degree from Wilkes University specializing in elementary education. She earned a certification in elementary education from Marywood University and a Reading Specialist certification from Temple University. Richards has taught students at all levels from preschool through high school. She began her career teaching Title I reading, but spent the majority of her 40-year career teaching in self-contained classrooms at the Dallas Area School District, Dallas, Pa., and the Williamsport Area School District. Upon retiring from public school, Richards spent five years teaching four- and five-year-olds at Lycoming Nursery School. Richards has also taught piano, marching band at Lake Lehman High School, and continues to co-direct theatre productions at the Williamsport Area Middle School. In her free time, Richards enjoys gardening, biking, and traveling. She resides in Williamsport with her husband Ed, and their two spoiled dachshunds.
