Students at Lycoming College are hosting a Great American Smokeout event at the Keiper Recreation Center on Nov. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event is free, open to the public and no registration is required.
Throughout the event, students and tobacco-cessation experts will share information, demonstrate alternative activities to replace smoking habits, and offer encouragement. Visitors are welcome to bring friends and family members who can help reinforce positive changes and celebrate successes with quitting tobacco use.
According to the American Cancer Society, tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the United States.
The event is sponsored by the Clear Focus Affinity Housing Community and the American Cancer Society. Clear Focus, which examines issues with unhealthy habits and behaviors, is one of several residential communities formed on Lycoming’s campus as part of a new program in which students and faculty explore thematic academic interests beyond formal classroom boundaries.
