New student organization provides marketing and communications support to campus and community

Two Lycoming College students recently founded Lycoming Communications, also known as LyComm, a student-run marketing and communications organization on the Lycoming College campus. Darrian McClellan, a junior from Williamsport, Pa., and Rachel Heck, a senior from Starr, Md., both have a major in corporate communications.

“In the communications field, getting hands-on experience is essential to building a launching pad for the future,” said McClellan. “LyComm will give students that hands-on experience while also providing the campus and local community with a valuable resource.”

The purpose of LyComm is to function in a way similar to a full-fledged marketing and communication firm, by providing marketing and communications support to Lycoming College student organizations and non-profits in the Williamsport community, free of charge. The students are offering their time and experience to gain hands-on experience in the field, as well as samples of work they can add to their portfolios. Services include, but are not limited to, developing social media strategies and posts, writing news releases, composing content, and designing posters and brochures.

In addition to providing marketing and communication services, LyComm students also plan to bring speakers to campus to provide insight and advice about the field, attend conferences, and visit local marketing and communications firms. Elizabeth Greenaway, director of marketing and public relations, is serving as the advisor of the organization.
