Supported by a first-rate liberal arts education, Lycoming College's Institute for Management Studies is about opening doors, making connections and getting a jump start on a fulfilling career for all students majoring or minoring in accounting, business administration and economics.
The IMS offers a hands-on approach to business education while teaching students to write effectively, think creatively and analytically, and understand the relationship of business to the larger society. IMS students have the opportunity to participate in a May term course, the European Business Experience, highlighted by a European trip to the United Kingdom and Prague, Czech Republic. Other Study Abroad opportunities include the Westminster Business School at the University of Westminster in the heart of London.
One of the driving forces behind the IMS’s success is Anne Landon, the internship coordinator and assistant director. She is also a member of the Professional Association of Résumé Writers and holds the CPRW (Certified Professional Résumé Writer) certification. With her help, Lycoming students have been placed into exceptional internship programs, some of which have led to jobs upon graduation. Click here to meet the IMS Interns.
An important component of the IMS is the James W. Harding Executive Speaker Series, giving students the opportunity to meet and socialize with top business executives. Past speakers have included the CEO of an international retailer, a vice president of a four billion-dollar paper company, an internationally recognized specialist on the energy markets, and a managing director of a worldwide insurance brokerage firm. The IMS always schedules time for speakers to meet and dine privately with students. This encourages informal, one-on-one discussions with some of America's top business leaders.
The IMS has established an Accelerated MBA Program with the College of Business at Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, allowing students to complete their MBA in one calendar year.
