Through a grant from the National Science Foundation, Lycoming College has launched its Living and Learning STEM (L2S) program. The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) program will enable Lycoming College to award competitive scholarships of $7400 a year for each of a student's four years of study. The financial aid package for L2S scholars will include the L2S scholarship and a combination of other federal, state, and institutional aid awards that will fully meet their federally demonstrated financial need for billable costs of tuition, mandatory fees, and room and board. Two cohorts of 7-8 students each will be named L2S Scholars beginning with the fall of 2019.
Eligible students will:
Some degree of flexibility may be considered for exceptional students.
In addition to the annual scholarships, L2S Scholars will benefit from programmatic elements including participation in:
- a STEM-focused living-learning community in the freshman year
- a humanities-based, STEM-relevant first-year seminar
- mentoring relationships with faculty, upperclassmen, alumni, and a STEM career advisor
- a paid summer internship or research experience
The L2S application process includes the submission of a written essay describing career goals and personal interests. Once accepted into the program, L2S Scholars must maintain a cumulative and major GPA of at least 3.0 and be on track to graduate in four years. They must continue to pursue coursework in a STEM major and demonstrate interest in pursuing a STEM career. Scholars must be active members of their L2S cohort and participate in L2S program activities.
Essay submissions must be received by February 1, 2019.
