Spanish Language Assistant
Gerardo Luna Sánchez is the Spanish language assistant for the 2024-25 academic year. Sánchez is from Yucatán, Mexico, where he resides in a small town named Dzemul, which translates to "place of the imposing hill" in the Mayan language. Located 40 minutes from Mérida, the state capital, and just 10 minutes from the beach, Dzemul offers a unique charm. He earned a bachelor's degree in English language teaching from Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán in 2016 and recently served as an English teacher at Cumbres International School Mérida. Additionally, he represented the Mayan culture as a cultural ambassador in France during the Le Solidaire du Chocolat event and has contributed as a workshop facilitator at the Yucatan International Book Fair. His passions include reading and watching and studying films. He also takes pride in his ability to dance Jarana, Yucatán's traditional dance, as well as his singing skills, inherited from his father. Sánchez considers himself a diligent, responsible, empathetic, creative, and friendly individual, valuing teamwork for achieving successful outcomes. He is thrilled about the opportunity to work at a university in the United States, where he can share his knowledge of his state and country while learning about the rich culture of a different region. Sánchez position at Lycoming marks his first visit to the USA. His guiding principle has always been: "In a world where you can be anything, be kind."
