Constitution of the English Society
As members of the Lycoming College English Society, our mission is to foster the love of literature and writing on campus and in the surrounding community. We will strive to meet twice a month at a time and place decided on a per-semester basis, so as to accommodate the greatest number of members.
Voting members must attend four meetings per semester, and a quorum of five voting members is needed to vote on a decision such as officer election, budget proposals, etc. Officers will be selected by election in February of each year to allow outgoing officers to train incoming officers.
Officers elected in February will hold office until the following February. There are no term limits. The duties of each are outlined herein:
The president's duties include, but are not limited to: keeping track of the club roster and updating it as needed; ensuring that a representative is present for such activities as Crever Day, the Campus Carnival, and Town Meetings; conducting meetings; taking the minutes if the secretary is absent. To be elected president, candidate must have been a voting member of the English Society for at least one semester prior to holding the office.
The vice-president's duties include, but are not limited to: holding and conducting meetings in the absence of the president; organizing the first meetings of the fall semester if the previous president is no longer involved in the English Society; completing any necessary steps in signing up for the annual PDR.
The secretary's duties include, but are not limited to: recording the minutes from each meeting and sending out an email to all club members to recap the meeting's events; sending out reminders a few days prior to each meeting.
The treasurer's duties include, but are not limited to: keeping track of all club funds; writing and picking up checks; sending out periodical emails regarding significant financial changes (in excess of $25.00), collecting money for trips taken or other activities; contacting any organization needed in regards to making contributions. To be elected treasurer, candidate must have been a voting member of the English Society for at least one semester prior to holding the office. In the event of the treasurer's absence at a meeting, a pro-temp treasurer will be selected from the members present to fulfill the treasurer's duties for that meeting.
The historian acts as a recorder of English Society events. Duties include, but are not limited to: taking pictures at English Society events and keeping photo album updated.
The Webmaster will maintain and update the club webpage.
The officers and any interested members will rotate attendance at the Town Meetings and any other required functions.
