Lycoming College COVID-19 Protocols

Guidance for Students Experiencing COVID-19 or Other Respiratory Illnesses e.g., influenza, common cold, etc.

With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's "End of Federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) Declaration" that took effect on May 11, 2023, the College no longer has COVID-19 specific protocols. However, drawing upon lessons learned from the pandemic about how to reduce the spread of a respiratory illness, the College has developed guidance for students who experience COVID-19 or another respiratory illness. The guidance below is provided to promote the well-being of students and the campus community as a whole.

Students experiencing congestion, runny nose, headache, cough, fever, fatigue, and/or shortness of breath should contact Health Services at (570) 321-4052 to arrange an appointment.

Testing Positive and Isolation for COVID-19

  • Students who test positive for COVID-19 (self-administered test or tested by a medical provider) should isolate for five days.
    • Students who test positive for COVID may isolate at home or in their residence hall room.
    • Students who are isolating because of a COVID positive test may discontinue isolation after five days if symptoms are resolving (including no fever for 24 hours). Students leaving isolation after five days should wear an N95 or KN95 mask when around others for an additional five days.
    • Students isolating in their residence hall room or campus apartment are advised to wear surgical quality mask or N95 or KN95 mask when in the presence of others in the room and, to the extent possible, maintain physical distance from one another.
  • Access to meals:
    • Students testing positive for COVID and choosing to isolate on campus may utilize the To-Go option in Wertz Dining Hall while properly wearing an N95 or KN95 mask.
    • Students in isolation may also choose to ask a friend to pick up meals at the Wertz Dining Hall, Café 1812, or Jack’s Place.

Diagnosis of a respiratory illness other than COVID

Students diagnosed with a respiratory illness other than COVID should follow recommendations from their medical provider as to whether they should isolate, and/or wear a mask in the presence of others.

Student Exposure to COVID 19

Students are not required to quarantine if exposed to COVID-19 or another respiratory illness.

  • Students who have been exposed to COVID-19 or another respiratory illness should consider wearing an N-95 or KN-95 mask when in the presence of others for 10 days (Note that Day 1 is the day after the last exposure) and to monitor for symptoms. If symptoms develop, the student is to follow isolation procedures noted above.

Students Exposed to a Respiratory Disease Other than COVID

Students exposed to a respiratory disease other than COVID should follow the recommendations of their medical provider.

Classroom Remote Access

  • Short term remote access (STRA) is at the full discretion of faculty, and students should consult the individual course syllabus for the STRA policy.
  • As with all class absences, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with their faculty to make up missed classroom work.
