The Resident Student Mentor (RSM) is a paraprofessional member of the Academic Services and Residential Life staffs. The RSM lives and works with the students enrolled in a specific first-year seminar (FYS) as part of a Living Learning Community (LLC). The role of the RSM includes:
- attending the FYS
- assisting on all field trips
- supporting in-class learning
- fostering out-of-class learning through activities, study sessions, and individual peer mentoring
- helping with the ARC-100 classes during the Spring Semester
In addition, the RSMs give presentations and lead discussions on various topics at the annual Academic Success Retreat. The goal is clear: peers helping peers leads to successful outcomes.
