60 Keith Mauery Sr. celebrated his 85th birthday on June 26, 2021, by raising a glass of Wolf King Warrior Stout, coincidentally brewed by Lycoming alumni Paul John ’85 and Eric John ’90, co-owners of the Rusty Rail Brewing Company. In attendance to mark the occasion were alumni and children Keith (Chip) Mauery Jr. ’81, Jill Mauery Boova ’82, Susan Mauery Albers ’87, and son-in-law, Steve Albers ’85. Keith continues to reside in Lewistown, Pa., with his wife, Jane. 67 After more than 57 years had passed since they had last seen each other, Larry Tischler and former roommate Herb Turetzky had lunch together at the Neptune Diner in Bayside, Queens. Larry now lives in Fairfield, Oh., where he serves as vice-chairman of the Joe Nuxhall Miracle Leagues Field and is an advisory board member of the Cincinnati and Butler County Special Olympics. Herb had transferred to LIU and returned to Brooklyn. That transfer turned Herb’s life around after he attended the New Jersey Americans’ first-ever game as a spectator in October 1967. He was asked by the general manager if he could help out and keep score that night and has been doing so ever since. He has been an official scorer for the New Jersey Americans, then Long Island Nets, New York Nets, and now the Brooklyn Nets for 54 years and counting. Herb has scored more than 2,200 games with an amazing consecutive game streak of 1,465, which has landed him a spot in the “Guinness Book of World Records” for pro basketball. 72 Denise von Wilkie recently received two first place prizes for her photography in the Wallisch Farmstead and Passaic County Senior Services competitions. One of her photos has been forwarded to the New Jersey State Senior Competition. In addition to photography, Denise has published a children’s book entitled “My Humongous, Hairy Bigfoot BFF.” 74 Karen Brungardt, D.O., has found a new passion during her retirement years — writing books! “Exchanger,” a sci-fi fantasy, was published in 2019, and she has since released her second book in the series, “Exchanging.” Follow Jessi’s adventures as the universe’s only shape-shifter as she attends the university on an alien world as an exchange student. These books are available on Amazon.com under K.E. Brungardt. COVID lockdown gave Karen plenty of time to work on her parents’ memoirs to turn them into books. “45, What is Your Name?” is her mother’s memoir of growing up in the Brooklyn Home for Children.
