Detwiler Planetarium

Do you want to explore peculiar objects in our universe, such as black holes and supernovae? Are you curious about our nearest stellar neighbor? Have you ever wanted to see the night sky from a Galilean moon?

Visit the Lycoming College campus to unravel the mysteries of the universe in the Lynn Science Center’s Detwiler Planetarium. Featuring a 35-foot-wide dome and a state-of-the-art digital projection system, Detwiler Planetarium enables Lycoming College students and the greater Williamsport area to recreate the night sky and astronomical bodies in a comfortable learning environment.

Cutting-edge technology allows visitors and students to explore the boundaries of the universe and the depths of the earth in stunning high definition detail. Here, students gain outreach and teaching experience while working with the technology that goes into planetarium showings.

In addition to serving faculty and students, Detwiler Planetarium is available to the greater Williamsport community as an aid in astronomical studies in the classroom and for multimedia presentations. Persons or organizations interested in using this space may contact Debbie Smith at Smithdeb@lycoming.edu for more information.
