Kathy Turner Sterngold has been creating original ceramic art since 1974, when she completed a Master of Arts degree at Alfred University. Kathy was a founding member of The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, one of the nation’s leading ceramic arts organizations. Her work has been exhibited at galleries throughout Pennsylvania, including the Packwood House Museum in Lewisburg and Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen Studio in Bushkill Falls.

Kathy has participated in dozens of juried arts shows, including The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College (near Penn State), the Eagles Mere Art and Craft Festival, and the Lewisburg Arts Festival. Her pottery was exhibited at the opening of the Community Arts Center in Williamsport as part of an exhibit to showcase the works of local artists.

Kathy creates both wheel-thrown and slab-built ceramic art.  Each piece is a one-of-a-kind original that is completely hand-made and signed by the artist. Kathy’s works use strong, natural shapes colored by warm earthy glazes. Her style is to work with the clay so each piece has its own character and integrity. Kathy believes traditional designs are more lasting than highly decorative styles that may be in fashion for a few seasons.

In addition to her studio work, Kathy teaches the ceramics courses at Lycoming College, and she taught pottery-making at Bucknell University.
