Students Mathieu Chenet, Nicholas Ripley, and Julie Bush say Ms. Stephanie Carey is “nice and smart.”
Carey has been teaching class for fifth and sixth grades for four years. "I teach this because I have loved photography ever since I was in high school. And I love to share my knowledge of taking beautiful photos as a professional wedding photographer with kids.”
“I just enjoy sharing the creativity by using the SLR-single lens reflex with kids,” she added. This is a camera that allows light to come in from two spots, and you can change the lighting by changing the lens. It, therefore, allows kids to be creative with lighting.
Tuesday afternoon Carey took her class on a field trip around Williamsport to take pictures. Wednesday afternoon she took her class to the dark room to develop those same pictures. They had to put their negatives in an assortment of chemicals to develop them.
“It [Working in the darkroom] is a favorite activity of the students,” said Carey.
“We used the old fashioned cameras that take pictures in black and white,” said Ripley. Then they developed the negatives and enlarged the pictures on the negatives to make 5” by 7” pictures.
The students works were displayed on Friday in the Fine Arts building, room 116. |
