CREATURES OF HABITAT, taught by Mrs. Pamela Tabatabai, is for students in grades 3-4. This class has been at College for Kids for 5 years, but the projects and the name differ every year.

James Hamm said, “I liked building the papier-mâché volcanoes because I like science.”Some other projects they made were stained glass bugs and mud pies.

They also opened owl pellets and looked for bones; this project was Alyssa Gregory and Aalon Cipriani’s favorite. They went on a scavenger hunt to look for different kinds of leaves which they used as block prints to paint designs on their t-shirts.

On Friday Creatures of Habitat students set off their volcanoes at the loading dock outside Heim around 9 AM. Also they brought in their pets from home, except cats or dogs, to show the class.

Wizard's Workshop

WIZARDS WORKSHOP II is a cool class for grades 3 and 4. This class is taught by Ms. Rae Temple, for the second year.

Some of the projects they did were making “magic potions,” creating a book of spells, learning transfiguration, and making crystal balls, where they put glitter on glass ornaments.Ms. Temple taught the class about the Harry Potter movies and the books. They studied some of the spells used by characters in the books.

One thing the class did was to be sorted into houses, just like in the movies. The each put on the sorting hat and picked a name from the cauldron to determine which Harry Potter house they belonged to for the week.

Each of the four houses competed for points throughout the week, like in the Harry Potter books. They earned points by paying attention and by winning games.

Alyssa Gregory said, “My favorite project was making the magic wand.”

Gage Walsh said, “My favorite part is when we made potions.”
