This form has two purposes: to verify that a proposed course meets the criteria for a W course and to record practices in the teaching of writing.  Questions are keyed to the criteria for offering a writing-intensive course adopted by the faculty in Spring 1985.  You may wish to refer to the Faculty Handbook (appendix L) for a complete description of those criteria.

Please attach any additional descriptions of formal and informal writing assignments that might help the committee understand that ways in which you have integrated writing instruction into your course.  Submit these materials to the chair of the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee.

Formal writing assignments are revised discourses.  Expository, analytical, creative, critical, research-based papers and most traditional term-papers can be considered to be formal writing if there is class time and attention spent on the processes of writing and revision.
