College will host Science Saturday on Saturday, September 28, 2002.
Science Saturday is an open house specifically designed for
perspective students interested in majoring in one of the sciences.
Registration will begin at 9:30 A.M.
in Pennington Lounge in the Academic Center. Students will then be
able to choose three out of six informational sessions to attend.
Five of the sessions, include "Choosing a Health
Profession," "Clean Air, Clean Water, and the
Environment," "Biology: A World of Possibilities,"
Chemistry: The Central Science," and "Astronomy and
Physics: The Final Frontier," all deal with choosing a career
based on the various science majors. The Final session, "The
Out of Classroom Experience," is a program hosted by current
Lycoming College science majors who will explain all the
opportunities available to Lycoming students for internships,
independent studies, and research projects.
Science Saturday will also feature
specialized tours of the science facilities, including a look at
current student research projects, tours of the chemistry and
biology labs, and a look at the planetarium. In addition students
and their families will receive a general tour of campus and lunch.
There will also be general sessions concerning financial aid,
admission requirements, meals and housing, and much more.
This year, prospective students will
also be able to attend an alumni panel, featuring Lycoming graduates
who have excelled in their science careers. The panel will offer
students the opportunity to ask Lycoming graduates about careers and
options in the various fields of science.
"Many students interested in the
sciences really want to compare the science programs at different
schools. Lycoming has wonderful facilities that are on par with
graduate schools, and Science Saturday is a great day for our
science program to shine," said Adrianna Kuckla, an admissions
counselor and graduate of Lycoming College.
Lycoming College is a private
four-year liberal arts college located in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania. The Carnegie Foundation has rated Lycoming as a
