Russell, Executive Speaker for the Institute for Management Studies
at Lycoming College, presents "The Power of Public Relations in a Changing
Marketplace," at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2001, in room
G-11 of the Heim Building.
Russell joined the full-time public
relations faculty of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of
Public Communications in Sept. 1986 after nearly 20 years of
professional public relations practice. She is the chair of the
School’s Public Relations Department and Academic Director of
The Newhouse School’s distance learning program for mid-career
public relations professionals, leading to a master’s degree in
Communications Management.
Professor Russell is co-author of a
book on the media coverage of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, in
which her specific work dealt with the role and performance of
public relations practitioners during the tragedy. Her current
research projects include examinations of crisis communications
preparedness in various United States cities, particularly in the
aftermath of Oklahoma City. Another study Russell is conducting
inspects crises preparedness within the international airline
industry.
