| The
Lycoming College Theater Department will present Richard O’Brien’s
Rocky Horror Show in the Mary L. Welch Theatre. Directed by Jerry D.
Allen with Music Director Russ Wynn and Choreographer Billy Ross,
the show will run from October 29-30, November 1-2 at 8:00 P.M. and
November 3 at 7:00 P.M. with a special midnight Halloween performance on the
31.
"Rocky
Horror" is the story of a newly engaged couple, Brad (Tim
Yorke) and Janet (Allie May) whose car breaks down, forcing them to
seek help at a mysterious mansion. This turns out to be the home of
Dr. Frank N. Furter (David Monti), an alien transvestite from the
planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania. Frank N. Furter is
working on an experiment to create the perfect man, resulting in
Rocky (Matt Bruce). The play is a musical spoof of B-list movies,
fairy tales, pantomimes, sci-fi movies and hammer horror films.
The
Rocky Horror Show premiered in 1973 as a London stage production. It
was a hit with the London audience, but it was quickly canceled in
New York. The movie version of the play, "The Rocky Horror
Picture Show," starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry
Bostwick was released in 1975, but it also bombed across the U.S.
However, since that time, the movie has become a cult classic, in
which audiences participate with the film using toilet
paper, flashlights, playing cards, and much more.
G.L.O.B.A.L.
will be selling "Audience participation kits" during each
of the Lycoming College performances, and audience members are
welcome to attend in costume. If you bring your own
"participation kit" the following items will not be
allowed: open flames (use a flashlight), water pistols (for the rain
scene), and toast (this scene is not in the stage play.)
"All
the members of the cast are looking forward to a top notch show. I
have never had such an eager and talented cast in my nineteen years
of teaching at Lycoming College. It should prove to be a fun
and different kind of evening for ‘Rocky Horror’ fans,"
said Jerry D. Allen, director.
The
show contains adult themes and is not recommended for young
audiences. For more information, please contact the Box Office
at 321-4048.
