College welcomes back its alumni for Homecoming on October 10-13,
complete with bonfire, pep rally, parade, football game, Homecoming
Court, and a barbecue on the Quad. This year’s theme is
"There’s No Place Like Homecoming" based on the story of
the Wizard of Oz.
The Homecoming Parade departs from
the Fine Arts Building, College Place, at 12:00 noon on Saturday,
Oct. 12 and winds its way to the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex
at David Person Field.
The football game will begin at 1:30
p.m. on Saturday Oct. 12 at David Person Field. Prior to the game,
Walt (’67), Peggy (Giauque) (’69) "Chip" Charles (’98),
and Matt (’02) Edmonds will sing the national anthem. During the
game, photos will be taken of the Reunion classes of ’62, ’67,
’72, ’77, ’82, ’87, ’92, ’97, and ’02. At halftime
alumni award winners and athletic hall of fame inductees will be
introduced.
Alumni Award Winners
Three Lycoming College aluni will be
honored at a special brunch on Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Main Quad.
The Angela R. Kyte Outstanding Alumnus Award this year goes to Dr.
Otto L. Sonder, Jr., ’46 of Oneonta N. Y.. The Outstanding
Achievement Award will be given to Mr. Eugene E. Landon, (’57) of
Montoursville, Pa. The Dale V. Bower Service Award will be given to
Mr. Thomas M. Aubrey, Jr. (’58) of Mohnton, Pa.
Golf Tournament, Athletic Hall of
Fame Induction and other events
Homecoming events begin on Thursday
with a bonfire pep rally, a traditional resurrected from the 1950s
and 1960s. The bonfire will be built in the West Fourth Street
parking lot with activities beginning at 8:30 p.m..
The Homecoming Classic Golf
Tournament tees off at White Deer Golf Course at 11:00 a.m., Friday
Oct. 11.
On Friday, Ronald Aungst '96, a
Jersey Shore native and a doctoral candidate at Penn State, will be
the guest speaker at the Chemistry/Biology Homecoming Colloquium at
4 p.m., on Friday October 11 in the Barclay Lecture Hall of the Heim
Biology and Chemistry Building.
The Athletic Hall of Fame Induction
dinner will take place at T.G.I.Friday’s Banquet Room, 1840 East
Third Street on Friday, October 11 at 6:00 p.m. This year's
inductees include Mary Beth Schwinderhammer (’97), of Allentown,
Pa., Darin Keim (’96), of Herndon, Pa., CAPT Victor Olear (’91),
of Hawley, Pa., J. Darrin Kenney (’92), R. Anthony Pollitt (’62),
of Bethesda, M.D., and Stephen Eldredge (’94), of Downingtown, Pa.
(Reservations are required for dinner.)
Alumni are invited to participate in
building the Lycoming Habitat for Humanity House on Saturday morning
from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon. The house is at the corner of Eldred and
Baldwin Streets.
An alumni choir rehearsal will be
held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in Clarke Chapel, and the induction
of members into the Gamma Sigma Alpha honor society will take place
at 11 a.m. in the East Hall Coffee House.
All Campus/Alumni Barbecue
After the Saturday football game,
alumni are invited to join students from 5 to 8 p.m. for a barbecue
on the Quad with entertainment by "Voyage."
Homecoming will end on Sunday, Oct.
13, with a brunch for the Class of 1952 and the Heritage Club
(alumni from Lycoming College and Dickinson Seminary who have
graduated more than 50 years ago) hosted by President and Mrs.
Douthat in the Jane Schultz Dining Room in the Wertz Student Center.
Homecoming is also reunion weekend
for the Classes of 1952, 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987,
1992 and 1997.
A good crowd is expected. Almost 20 percent of
Lycoming’s alumni live in a 50-mile radius of Williamsport.
Registration for reunion years is from 9:00
a.m. to noon in Pennington Lounge, Academic Center. All other alumni
can register at the main registration table. It is also possible to
